To all
I just discussed with Coolman and we guessed it would be a good idea to
1) do an OFFICIAL introduction song translation (always re-used)
2) create an " AVGN thesaurus" in which insults and other recurrent sentences can be "officially" used
Perhaps we can vote it (with doodle or any google thing) and feed a shared document in which anyone can pickup these sentences, insults and etc...
what do you think?
To my opinion, that's the best way to proceed, to keep the "french AVGN spirit" all along the episodes.
Great idea. It's kinda hard to find the good insult to use (which is insulting and fun enough but not ridiculous in French)...

Re: French Subs
Thanks Brenda, I have added to the shared Gdrive
please please please, people, don't forget to raise hand by sending an email or a message here to take the sub you want in charge: this will avoid redundancy (and frustration).
TechGuy: can you update the first post: episode 20, done, by BrendaLama (I have updated the Google docs)
Also, we will need to have volunteers for re-reading and timing checks quickly :S

Re: French Subs
Nice work overall!
I think some sentences have to be reduced because there are too many letters per line and their on-screen time isn't sufficient in order for them to be read properly. Of course, you can do it, but when it's too speedy, it's not very pleasant. The reader feels stressed and doesn't even have time to look at the actual picture because he's constantly reading. You unfortunately HAVE to make some sacrifices. It's frustrating but that's how you do it :/
It's not a big deal though, it can be fixed quickly and that's not the main thing.
The translation itself is really good!
Good job :p

Re: French Subs
D'accord , I'm gonna improve that
I knew it,because some of my sentences were too damn long to be proper with subtitling. Do you know how much letters can be on a line maximum ?

Re: French Subs
It's supposed to be max 36 letters per line (including spaces and everything), not more than 2 lines and max 70 letters in total (that's the official French subtitling rules) but that's not always 100% respected, even in real DVDs, so you can slightly exceed it from time to time, however try to stay reasonable.

Re: French Subs
Good! You should have direct access to Google Drive, though, instead of sending them to cobalt each time.
Just send me a PM with your email adress, I'm gonna add you.
I checked the new subtitles for the Atari 5200 episode by the way, it's pretty good.

I've sent my email by MP. It will be more convenient.
By the way,if you need proofreaders,I'm a volunteer !
And yeah,I think we should send the subtitles that are done

Now that you say this, I think that it would be a better idea to work per 5 episodes or something.
We need to release subtitles when we are 100% sure that no further modification will be needed. However, as Juanako said, we have to send them in packages. It would also be a shame that fans can't enjoy our subtitles until they're all done.
Indeed, concentrating on only 5 subtitles at the same time would be a double benefit; subtitlers and proofreaders would be working together in order to make them the best possible, there would be a time avantage AND a quality avantage.
Added you btw.

Re: French Subs
Do you mean that some people should focus on translating/syncing whereas others are proofreading?

Re: French Subs
Here is how I see things:
Subtitlers make subs for the first 5 episodes. No proofread, anything. Then, proofreaders take a look at them and suggest improvements. Volunteers can ajust the timing, too. Once we all agree that they're good enough, we release them. Only then can we begin working on the next 5 ones.
What would be great for us is to have an entire section on the forum (just look at what tomas said here: avgnsubs.forumotion.com/t15-some-minor-things), with one thread/5 episodes, where we can all discuss on how to improve them, with sticky threads which explain how everything works for newcomers and confused people. It'd be a lot of work to set up all this, but it'd be 100 times more convenient when done, and I can take care of it if you want.

Re: French Subs
I do agree on the concept, but are we enough to proceed like this?
So far, 5 translators are working on it. I haven't gotten news from Gaucelm, nor from Rocko (TechGuy, did you?).
I do agree on the concept, I am just wondering if we are enough to achieve this way.

If everyone is motivated, I think so. Hopefully more people are gonna join the team.

Re: French Subs
The 5 episodes basis is a good idea, but cobalt is also right,we have to wait until more people join the team before planning who is gonna focus on what.
But we can at least proof read each other on 5 episodes, and decide what will be the official theme song translation ,and then send it to Juan.
What do you think ?
cobalt : okay,I'll proofread plumbers don't wear ties

Re: French Subs
Since I see you guys organizing yourselves so well about when to send me your SRT files, I just thought I'd point out that I received the subs for the Battletoads episode written by a Canadian under the name Yannick Martin. Is he someone you know? Are the subs approved to be sent in this week's bundle?
